Privacy policy
Universal Player is built to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what the app and this website process, where, and why.

Who we are
This policy covers the Universal Player app for Android phones, tablets, Android TV and Google TV, and the website universalplayer.app. You can reach us at support@universalplayer.app.
In short
- There is no Universal Player account. The app works without registering.
- What you set up in the app is stored on your device. We do not receive your sources, credentials, viewing history, favorites or settings.
- The app contains no advertising, analytics, telemetry or crash reporting software.
- Video goes directly from your source to your device. We do not relay, proxy, record or store streams.
- This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking.
Data the app stores on your device
The app stores the following in its private storage on your device, to work as you expect:
Source information
The name and type of each source you add, and whether you allowed an unencrypted HTTP connection for it.
Credentials
Playlist addresses, server addresses, usernames and passwords. They are encrypted with keys held in the device's secure key storage (Android Keystore), and are only used to connect to the source they belong to.
Catalogue metadata
Channel lists, categories, movies, series, episodes and artwork addresses as your source supplies them. Stream addresses that a playlist contains are stored encrypted. For Xtream-compatible sources, stream addresses are not stored at all: they are built when you press play.
Programme guide (EPG)
Programme titles, times and descriptions from your source's guide data.
Favorites, watch progress and settings
The channels you mark as favorites, where you stopped in movies and episodes, the last channel you watched, and your settings (such as Hide adult content). These are stored as identifiers and positions, not as names or addresses.
Diagnostics
A local log of recent events, such as a failed refresh or a stream that could not play, recorded as codes. It contains no names, titles, addresses, usernames or passwords, is limited to the most recent 500 events, and is never sent anywhere by the app. On a phone you can copy it yourself, for example to include in an email to support.
Temporary import storage
While a large list from your source is being imported, the app may temporarily write it to its private storage, encrypted with a key that exists only in memory. These files are deleted when the import ends, and any left over are deleted the next time the app starts.
Backups
Universal Player excludes its data from Android backups and device-to-device transfers. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage removes all of it.
Connections the app makes
The app connects only to the sources you add, and to the addresses those sources supply for logos, artwork, guide data and streams. Those servers are operated by your provider or by you, not by us, and they receive what any server receives from a connecting device, such as your IP address and the request. Their own privacy policies apply.
Encrypted HTTPS connections are used as they are. An unencrypted HTTP connection is only made for a source after you explicitly allow it for that source, following a warning. Without that consent, the app does not connect over HTTP.
The app does not connect to servers operated by us.
Your device's operating system and app store may process data under their own terms, for example when you install or update the app. We have no control over that processing.
This website
universalplayer.app sets no cookies and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking. Fonts and images are served from this website itself, not from third parties.
Like any web server, our hosting provider processes technical data such as your IP address, the page requested and your browser type to deliver the website and keep it secure. This data is not used to identify or profile visitors.
When you email us
If you write to support@universalplayer.app, we use your email address and message to answer you, and keep them only as long as needed for that. Please never send us your source's address, username or password: we never need them.
Your rights
Because the app keeps your data on your device, you control it directly: you can delete a source, clear favorites and progress by removing the source, or remove everything by uninstalling the app or clearing its storage.
For data we do hold, such as emails you sent us, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict it, to object to its processing and to data portability, depending on the law that applies to you. Contact us at support@universalplayer.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
Children
Universal Player does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. The app's Hide adult content setting is on by default and hides items your source marks as adult.
Changes
We will update this policy when the app or the website changes how data is handled, and change the date at the top. Future features such as optional synchronisation between devices will be described here before they are released.
